Introduction

In recent years, technological developments, globalization, environmental complexity and turbulence, deregulation, ethical issues, organizational agility, and changes in customer expectations force managers to try new and distinguished strategic management approaches. Contemporary management practices force strategists on creating competitive advantage tools from a contemporary and futuristic perspective. Traditional strategic management practices and theories are no longer sufficient alone. Strategists and business owners are now blending traditional strategic management approaches with modern approaches to restore the competitiveness of their companies. Sustainability in the rapidly changing business environment is also a significant concern. Sustainability in competitiveness, value creation, and business growth has become essential in modern strategic management practices. Strategic agility and practice-based approaches in complex and dynamic business ecosystems create adaptive strategies for the success of organizations.

New trends in information technology (IT), smart applications, the connectedness of people and devices, globalization, sustainability, ethics, newly developing economies, aging population, and new generation have dramatically changed the business ecosystem and the way of doing work. Creativity, innovation, and agility play a vital role in contemporary business strategists to anticipate and respond to these challenges in the new business ecosystem. In this book, we will seek to understand how contemporary challenges affecting strategic analysis, formulation, implementation, and evaluation. How the challenges of the new business ecosystem, such as globalization, ethical, and social responsibility, the multinational and multi-generation business environment, will influence the formation and implementation of strategies? To what extent will the nature and resources of competitive advantage be influenced by the latest trends in the business environment? How will the nature of strategic networks, partnerships, and alliances change? How digital strategies, platform strategies, network strategies, and competitive strategies will guide business strategists. In this book, we will try to find answers to these questions.
