Mehmet Fatih Bayramoglu is an Associate Professor of Finance at Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University, Zonguldak-Turkey. Dr. Bayramoglu has a BS in Business Administration from Pamukkale University (2002), an MBA from Zonguldak Karaelmas University (2007) and a Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance from Marmara University (2012). His research interests lie in Capital Markets such as forecasting of stock prices, portfolio management, and investment strategies in financial crises periods and in data mining & decision-making methodologies such as ANNs, Grey Systems, VIKOR, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, Decision Trees, OneR, and KStar. He has taught Capital Markets, Portfolio Management, Investment, Financial Modeling, and Financial Statement Analysis, among others, at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Bayramoglu completed his post-doctoral research at Lamar University College of Business, TX, USA.

Introduction

With the 21st century, technology has entered all areas of our lives intensively. In the previous century, many incredible stories we have read in the novels of science fiction and futurism have become the realities of our time. These rapid developments in technology have not only influenced our daily lives but also influenced today’s business life. It is seen that the financial markets also took part in these developments. In the current century, within the framework of globalization goals, it is seen that technology increases the interaction between financial markets and makes global transactions as glocal. Now it is quite simple for financial institutions and investors to know about any market and make various analyzes and make comments. In this process, investors were introduced to new products offered by financial institutions.

Besides, new technologies, new markets, and new financial products have led investors to meet new risks in the financial markets. Therefore, today, the management of financial risks has become more difficult for investors than in the past, and the effects of emerging financial risks have caused more destructive effects for financial institutions and investors.

This book focuses on the use of new technologies in the management of risks in the financial markets in the present century. In this context, machine learning techniques, data mining techniques, and econometric and statistical methods used in forecasting, modeling, and managing risks in money and capital markets will be discussed within the scope of this book.

This book welcomes theoretical and empirical studies on risk management in financial markets. Topics will include money, capital, and derivative markets, banking, stock exchanges, other financial markets and institutions, financial econometrics, financial engineering, and big data applications. This book consists of five sections:

The first section, entitled “New Risks in Financial Markets in the Digital Age,” will include the sections that covering/examining/analyzing emerging risk factors and causes in financial markets along with emerging technology. This section will also include sections that address the potential risks of FinTech applications to financial services providers and their users.

The second section focuses on investors. This chapter will address “New Technologies in Investment Decisions and Risk Management.” This section will cover the use of machine learning techniques, data mining methods, econometrics, and statistics as a decision support system in making investment decisions in financial markets, solving asset allocation problems, measuring investment performances, defining and managing risks.

The third section focuses on “The Role and Effect of Derivative Financial Instruments on Risk Management” in the Digital Age. This section discusses the current usability of traditional and modern hedging methods.

The fourth section focuses on “The Management of Internal and External Risks of Financial Institutions in the Digital Age.” In this context, the use of methods such as artificial intelligence, data mining, econometrics, and statistics as risk measurement and management tool in determining and managing the risks of companies, banks, credit scoring companies, investment and pension companies, portfolio management companies and other financial institutions. This section will also include sections that address the role of credit scoring companies for managing risks in financial markets.

The fifth section will be discussed “The New Ideas and Strategies in Risk Management in the Digital Age.” In this section, the future of financial markets in the digital age, its effects on business life, and the strategies to be developed will be discussed with a futurist approach. The following section is “The related topics on risk management in the financial markets,” such as international business and financial management, new approaches of risk and returns modeling, budgeting and forecasting, risk/return based portfolio optimization, credit scoring, financial connectedness, and shock spillovers.

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 02, 2020, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified very soon following their submission or by the 07 March, 2020 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by the 02 May, 2020 and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at www.bussecon.com prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
